CHARD RUGBY REPORT FOR SATURDAY 7TH OCTOBER
By GLYN HUGHES

Chard 1st xv had no game last Saturday because their opponents from Bath… Stothert and Pitt rfc were involved in a national senior vase cup competition. This match has initially been re-scheduled for Sat.18th November although it is possible that the powers that be will ask for it to be played on Sat. 28th October at Chard if Stothert lost their match.
The 2nd xv looked for a game in the pool but nothing could be found in time so they too were without a game. This did give the injured players at chard chance to recover from a variety of knocks.
This left the 3rd xv with a match at home against Wellington.

Chard 3rd xv 17pts   Wellington  3rd xv 47pts

This was the first match of the season for many of this squad and it showed!!
In the opening half Chard were somewhat second best to a Wellington side who looked rather fitter than the home side and they  were able to carve their way through the Chard midfield with ease. Wellington dominated the first half and were well worth their 27pts to nil lead at half time. Chard made a few changes at half time and the younger fresher legs that were brought on certainly made a difference and the second half was much more evenly contested. Chard scored two tries through Stuart Gold and Lee Brun. They were both under the posts and this made the conversions a formality for full back Wayne Lewis. Lewis also kicked a penalty goal to give the final score some respectability.
Chard team;-Templeton,  Stanners,  Male,  S.longman,  Bowers, Hughes, I.Longman, Frecknall, Berry, Hopper, Francis, N.King, A.King, W.Lewis. Replacements:-Smith, Gold,  Brun,  Hall,  Larcombe

Chard are keen to get more players training on a regular basis under the direction of Coach Pete Harrison. Training numbers on Tuesdays and Thursdays have not been as good as they should be and some of the recent results reflect the effort or indeed lack of effort that some of the players have made.
Chard are also keen to get more players and anyone interested is very welcome.
