CHARD RUGBY REPORT FOR SATURDAY 7TH APRIL 2007
BRIDPORT 2ND XV 26PTS CHARD 3RD XV 26PTS ( FRIENDLY )
A fitting result to a game that that was played in good spirit throughout. Both sides contained a mixture of youth and those old enough to know better! Conditions were hardly conducive for rugby with a bone hard pitch and the hot sweltering conditions making the bar a much better option! Bridport went into an early lead with two tries ,one of which was converted but Chard replied with similar efforts from Herbie James and Clive Adams. Chard were caught flatfooted when Bridport scored a third try when they quickly ran a penalty before Chard realised what was going on. However Adams levelled things up with his second try of the afternoon and the scores were level at 19 pts apiece at the break. In the second half a fine break by Danny Crabb assisted by Finn O’brien led to James getting his second try which Adams converted. Chard held out until the last seconds of the game when once again Bridport caught them out by running a penalty quickly and scored a try which they managed to convert to draw the game. Outstanding for Chard were Kevin Templeman, Trevor Smith and Neil Francis.
